Abstract

ABSTRACT Speech Therapy is a systematic efforts in teaching and learning so it gave the children have knowledge, skills, and attitudes to express thoughts, ideas, and feelings by talking (Wasita, 2012). Language is the ability to communicate with others. For children who have hearing loss, improved language skills becomes impaired. The purpose of this study to analyze the relationship speech therapy with improved skills for deaf children in special kindergaten Karya Mulia Surabaya. The study design used comparative design. Population of this study is 19 childrens who have hearing loss in special kindergaten Karya Mulia Surabaya. Samples of this study used Purposive Sampling. Data of this study to compare the result of development language before and after therapy by documentation studies. The result of development language examined statistically using SPSS 16 with Wilcoxon Test. The results showed that before used speech therapy, the language skills is not able and able to help with the proportion 26.3% and then the language skills become increase able on the ability with the proportion 68.4% after used speech therapy. The result of wilcoxon test obtained ρ = 0.000 with significance ρ < 0,05. It means H1 is accepted, there is an effective speech therapy with improved lamguage skills for deaf children in Special kindergarten Karya Mulia Surabaya. The implication of this study to raise the frequency of speech therapy to improving the language skills for deaf. Keywords: Speech Therapy, Improved Language Skills, Deaf Children
