Abstract

Being old is a natural phenomenons as a result of the aging process. A person will stay healthy until old age, since young need to get used to a healthy lifestyle. This healthy lifestyle should have been done at a young age so that when entering the elderly person can live his life happy, avoid many health problems that eventually can lead a life with health optimal. This study aims to describe the lifestyle and perception of health of the elderly in the coastal area of Surabaya. This study used a correlation descriptive. Number of samples are 89 and to determine the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Data analysis with univariate and bivariate. The result showed that the lifestyle profile of elderly in the coastal area of Surabaya more than half (55%) had a poor lifestyle. Health perception of elderly people in the coastal area of Surabaya more than half (58%) have a perception of good health. Result showed that there is a relationship between lifestyle profiles and perception of health of the elderly in the coastal area of Surabaya (P value = 0.00). Implications of this findings that themanis expected to manage a good lifestyle actively in outreach activities to be under taken by the Department of Health of Surabaya. Health Department Surabaya City in order to create a policy to increase counseling related to lifestyle and the importance of elderly health coaching programs to implement communication, information and education related to those programs.
