Abstract

Abstract: Adolescents are sensitive to change and easily influenced by the developments in the vicinity. Affective functions of the family is needed to train the emotional intelligence of adolescents in this case the student to be able to sort out the good and bad things that happen around him. This study aims to find out the relationship between family affective function and the level of students’ emotional intelligence in STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya. The design of the study is analytical correlative with cross sectional method. The population is 212 respondents. Samples were chosen using simple random sampling technique, resulting 139 respondents from the students of STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya. Data analysis applies Spearman's rho. Applying Spearman's rho the test showed that ρ = 0.001, so this suggests that there is a relationship between the family affective function and the students’ level of emotional intelligence in STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya. The implication of this research is the better affective function in a family, the higher the emotional intelligence of individuals, especially teenagers in it.
