Abstract

ABSTRACT Food processing can affect the nutrient content in food, it contributes to nutritional status of children. The aim of this study was to identify the nutritional status of children age 1-3 years old based on food processing techniques. The study was conducted in Bulak Village, Kenjeran District, coastal area of Surabaya. The study design used prospective cohort. The sample was 105 pair parent and 1-3 years old children using simple random sampling technic. This research instrument uses a questionnaire about food processing and measures the nutritional status of children based on NCHS table. The results showed that there was a relationship between daily food processing techniques and children's nutritional status. The results of the Spearman Rho correlation value r = 0.001 (r <a = 0.05). The absolute value of the correlation coefficient is 0.435 which means that the relationship at a moderate level. Bad daily food processing techniques as many as 18 children (17.1%), and good 87 children (82.9%). Meal processing can affect the nutritional status of children, it's also influenced by various factors such as frekuency of feeding. Key word : Food processing, Nutritional status
