Abstract

ABSTRACT Children are particularly vulnerable to microorganisms when poor food sanitation can cause recurrent infectious diseases so the body can not absorb nutrients well and may affect nutritional status. The purpose of this research is the relationship of food sanitation with nutritional status of toddler age children. The research design used analytic observation with cross sectional approach. The independent variable is food sanitation and the dependent variable is the nutritional status. The population of all toddler­age children and mothers was 144 respondents. The research used sampling probability with sample random sampling approach, so that the sample was 105 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire for food sanitation and an anthropometric table for nutritional status. Data were analyzed using spearman rank correlation. The results showed good food sanitation as many as 67 (63.8%) respondents and nutritional status with normal nutrition as much as 75 (71.4%) respondents. The statistical results show that there is a relationship between food sanitation and nutritional status of toddler children in Kelurahan Kenjeran Kecamatan Bulak Surabaya with ρ= 0,001 (ρ≤α0,05). The implication of this research is food sanitation related to nutritional status of toddler age children. So the respondents need to improve the sanitation of food by maintaining the safety of food ranging from foodstuffs to serving food so that it can improve nutritional status.
