Abstract

The dental caries is one of the most common diseases in the oral cavity, which is a major problem for dental and oral health. Dental caries can be caused by several factors, one of which is the diet and environmental conditions in the oral cavity. The severity of dental caries itself when viewed from the geographical location has a significant difference, especially in children who live on the coast and in the mountains. The purpose of this research is to know the comparison of dental caries incidence in grade 2 elementary school children in coastal area of Panceng Gresik Subdistrict and mountain area Trawas Mojokerto Subdistrict.This research method used analytic observation design with cross sectional approach. The sample is taken using simple random sampling. Variable incidence of dental caries of coastal and mountain children. The data were collected using dental health questionnaire and dental caries observation in children. Data analysis using Chi Square test with significance level α  0,05.The results showed that dental caries of coastal children was mostly heavy (46.9%). Whereas caries of mountain boy's teeth was mostly light (53.1%). The result of statistical test shows that there is a comparison of dental caries incidence in grade 2 grade children in coastal area of Panceng Gresik Subdistrict and mountain area of Trawas Mojokerto Subdistrict with significance level 0,009 (α  0,05).The implications of this study are the selection of good food and the behavior of maintaining dental hygiene will reduce the risk of dental caries in children.
